After a successful series of readings with Pallas for the last three years, the musical theatre program will be partnering with Pallas’ TableRead new work development program to bring the development and production of a new work to campus each year.

Led by Assistant Professor of Theatre and Pallas’ Artistic Director, Tracey Brent-Chessum, Ph.D., The New Musical Laboratory will allow junior-level musical theatre students to be involved in the development, production and performance of a new musical each spring.

While Pallas gains the opportunity to further refine and expand its TableRead process, Point Park students will be provided with the opportunity to create roles, and use their training to refine a work of art.

This collaboration is a result of Point Park’s Head of Musical Theatre and Associate Professor, Zeva Barzell.

"We are so fortunate and excited to make this collaboration a part of the training program for our students," Barzell said. "In addition, we are so excited to have welcomed Tracey Brent-Chessum as a full-time faculty member this year, and look forward to the continued development and commitment to new works in the musical theatre.”

Work with The New Musical Laboratory begins this spring with two new musicals from Multer & Multer: Buried in Prosperity and code name: CYNTHIA.

Sophomore musical theatre majors have begun analyzing both projects, with plans for a tentative reading at The Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage festival in the fall, a private reading at Point Park in early 2018 and full productions of the works in April of 2018.
