Musical Theatre Grad Performs in Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret's 'Ruthless!'

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

Marlana Dunn, a 2007 graduate of Point Park University's musical theatre and jazz concentration program, is performing in Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret's production of Ruthless! The Musical, at the Cabaret at Theater Square through May 6.

Dunn says the conservatory program taught her to be a well-rounded performer, adding that over her four years of study she was able to identify her strengths and weaknesses which have prepared her to execute her work well in a rehearsal process and performance.

"I feel very well prepared for what I might encounter in the professional world," said Dunn. "Broadway is now, more than ever, the place where triple threats rein. You must be able to dance."

In addition to Dunn, the musical also features Point Park theatre alumnae Courtney Bassett ('11), Kristiann Menotiades ('03), Kara Mikula ('05), as well as Assistant Professor Kiesha Lalama as choreographer.

Dunn credits much of her successful professional career to her training with Professor Lalama at Point Park, "She expected a lot out of us as students and prepared us for the world we were entering; always treating us as professionals when working on a show."

This is Dunn's third show with the CLO Cabaret. In previous roles she played Patsy Cline in Always…Patsy Cline, Cindy Lou in The Marvelous Wonderettes and now as Judy/Ginger in Ruthless!

The performance runs through May 6 at the CLO Cabaret. Tickets can be purchased online at
